OVERVIEW

Welcome to the Cary Park District's Comprehensive Master Plan website!

The Cary Park District is currently developing its Comprehensive Master Plan. This plan will determine the parks and recreation projects and goals for the District to complete over the next five to ten years. During the planning process, we will be completing a detailed analysis of the District's recreation facilities and program offerings and incorporate valuable feedback from the community that will shape the District's priorities and goals.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

It is important that we hear from you. Your input is essential in establishing priorities and shaping the future improvement of parks, recreation facilities, programs, and services in your community. We invite you to get involved in the process.

February 3: A statistically valid survey is sent through the mail to a limited number of households within the Cary Park District boundaries. The households were not selected by the Cary Park District but were randomly selected by a third-party consultant who is conducting the survey. If you receive a survey, it is important that you complete it.
February 24: The online survey is now available. This survey is open to all households in the Cary Park District.

WHY DOES A COMPREHENSIVE PLAN MATTER?

The previous Comprehensive Master Plan, approved in 2016 brought to life exciting projects such as:

PROCESS

The Comprehensive Master Plan consists of five phases starting with the Analyze Phase, which identifies and assesses existing parks, facilities, programs, and amenities and compares Cary Park District offerings to recreation benchmarks.

Next, the District will collect public opinion to understand how residents use the Park District program offerings and to identify future needs in the Connect Phase.

During the Envision Phase, the project team will build on the needs of the Park District for the next five years, developing preliminary strategies based on local and regional market characteristics; physical, cultural, and financial resources; and the expectations and needs of the community.

In the Prioritize Phase, the project team will refine the strategies developed in the Envision Phase and determine the order in which these strategies will be implemented to meet the District's most pressing needs in the Action Plan. This Action Plan will show each strategy as a step-by-step project on a five-year calendar.

During the Implement Phase, the results of the Comprehensive Master Plan process, including the identified community needs, implementation strategies, and the five-year action plan, will be compiled into a comprehensive report. The report will also document the findings of the Analyze and Connect Phases, showing the complete picture of the Cary Park District's amenities and public perspective.
